What is my education and experience background?
I attended Lincoln Memorial University to receive my Bachelor of Science in chemistry, and then went on to earn my Master of Science in pharmacology from the University of Michigan, where my research focused on studying immune cell recruitment to aggressive breast tumors. Afterwards, I completed an additional year at the University of Michigan researching how immune cells are able to recognize and respond to cancer. I am currently pursuing my Ph.D. at Vanderbilt University, where I hope to uncover more answers in how the immune system responds to cancer and contribute to advancements in cancer therapeutics.
What are my core values as a healthcare professional?
Every patient has the right to fully understand their disease. I believe in empowering patients by offering empathy, understanding, and compassion. I also believe that in order to provide the highest standard of care, it’s important to understand the needs of the whole patient by learning more about their personality and identity. By taking a holistic approach, I believe the dignity of the patient is upheld, allowing them to be comfortable in navigating decisions that impact their health. Above all, I want to supply patients with the essential knowledge and resources that will allow them to continue confidently on their health journey.
How do you aim to work with patients?
The jargon of science and medicine is too often a barrier between a patient and the understanding of their disease. Discussing a topic like cancer can be heavy and confusing. When meeting with patients, I aim to actively listen, show empathy and understanding, and develop a clear path to full understanding. Most importantly, I want to empower these individuals by giving them opportunities to ask any and all questions, equipping them with knowledge and confidence to tackle the obstacles in their way.
Get to know me a little better
Outside of the lab, you can find me exploring parks in Nashville with my labradoodle, Darwin. I also enjoy going for runs, traveling to immerse myself in new cultures, and hanging out with friends. Finally, as a life-long soccer fan, I am glued to the TV on weekend mornings watching European football matches live.
