What is my education and experience background?
I have completed my bachelor’s in microbiology with Honors, master’s in medical biotechnology with Distinction from India. After that I was involved in a regeneration and RNA biology lab research for a
couple of years. I got my PhD in Microbiology from the University of Kansas and recently and started working as a research fellow at University of Michigan. My current research focus is understanding fundamental mechanisms of protein trafficking in human cells. I also work on understanding mechanism of blood coagulation to aid in understanding cardiovascular diseases. I have diverse science experience throughout my career so far, which has led me to have a strong understanding of multiple topics including cancer. As a researcher and science enthusiast, I feel it is our responsibility to serve the community with better communication about scientific topics and make science more understandable.
What are my core values as a healthcare professional?
I strongly believe that science is a collective product of work done by doctors, researchers, clinicians and many other professions. It is a privilege to be able to explain what we know and understand to others who have a diverse background. Helping and educating cancer patients families to understanding is very critical. It is extremely essential that they feel empowered and make decisions. I will be an empathetic, compassion listener to provide guidance and support wherever I am needed. My goal is to disseminate and simplify complex information into easy and comprehendible discussion.
How do you aim to work with patients?
It is a very personal thing to understand and about other people’s life challenges. I will strive to make patients feel comfortable in sharing their experience and help them navigate the situation to the best of my ability. I hope to be available to help not only cancer patients but also the families. I am ready to work with them as per their needs with an open-minded, fluid and flexible approach. I have experience in teaching and explaining complicated science jargon to non-science audiences too which I hope to use when I communicate with patients and/or their families.
